The Swing

How do you like to go up in a swing,
Up in the air so blue?

Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing
Ever a child can do!

Up in the air and over the wall,
Till I can see so wide,

River and trees and cattle and all
Over the countryside--

Till I look down on the garden green,
Down on the roof so brown--

Up in the air I go flying again,
Up in the air and down!

Robert Louis Stevenson

  1. What a sweet place to be on a nice day. We had a swing from a tree at my parents' home where I grew up . It's still there today even though we sold the home many years ago. I wish we had one now.

  3. Looks absolutely lovely. You should link this post to Tracy's Nature Photo party. The button is on my side bar. You take such wonderful nature photos. Your little dog is so cute! I've always wanted a porch swing but never had a porch big enough. This is a great alternative. Have you started packing yet?

  7. oh my, what memories you have inspired! my "meme mose" always sang this song when we were on her old wooden swing. for a long time it was under the willow tree, then on her front porch. i cannot to this day, sit on any swing without hearing her voice. i had forgotton all but the first verse, and also never knew the source. thank you for posting it. your photos are lovely!

  8. What a sweet place to sit and just think. RLS is my favorite author, and that poem one of his nicest.
